Who’s the decider?

Some of our clients have difficulty making decisions. They’re great debaters, but no decisions ever seem to get made, and people become frustrated at the lack of progress.

In Traction, Gino Wickman talks about the need for an integrator, whose job it is to make sure all the parts of an organization are working in synch. This is the person with the view of everything, often the COO or Chief of Staff.

One of the primary functions of the integrator is to “break the tie.”

Many teams have never talked about how they make decisions (there are only 4 ways), and by default use the consensus method.

Patrick Lencioni says the consensus is a four-letter word.

So appoint a decider.

Someone who, after all the talk, when the group can’t decide, has to make the call.

You’ll move forward and can adapt as needed.
