What does your shirt say?
My pal Robby says that he sometimes feels like a blank canvas, and people just paint onto it what they want to see.
While true, it’s also true that you can influence what people see when they interact with you.
I think of it this way: Everyone is wearing a white t-shirt.
We sometimes believe it’s possible to have a blank shirt without anything written on it.
But even if you think nothing’s on your t-shirt, it still has the word “nothing” on it, or “I don’t know.”
Now, imagine walking into a shop with a gazillion t-shirts, each one having a single word on it.
Some say “ELEGANT” or “CARING” or “LOYAL” or “HEALTHY” or “NASTY” and so on.
They’re all free. Which one would you choose?
Whichever t-shirt you choose, to tell the world how you see yourself, know that if you don’t act that way, you’ll confuse people.
Do you say you’re elegant but wear torn jeans?
Do you say you’re smart, but use the word “like” three times in a sentence?
Once you put on that t-shirt, you’ll have to choose the words you use, chose your body language, choose when to remain quiet, when to speak up.
You’ll have to think about how you dress, how you do your hair, what jewelry you use.
Whether you know it your not, you’re always saying who you are to the world.
You might as well choose your t-shirt.
