Slow down

Many of us feel compelled to answer or respond quickly, sometimes immediately, to any situation.

But not taking the time to formulate a thoughtful response means you may end up saying or doing something you regret.

Taking a momentary delay lets you:

  1. Make sure you understand the other person

  2. Analyze what’s been said

  3. Become aware of your own feelings and needs

  4. Determine what you want from the person or situation

  5. Decide how best to influence the situation so you’re more likely to get the outcome you want.

Tomorrow’s Daily Tip will give suggested language for slowing down a conversation.
