In 2021, let’s be more effective, content, and connected

Friends,

Thank you for being a reader of the Daily Tip.

Getting the Confident Communicator off the ground has been what I’ll call a “fun challenge” these past few months. I have made some progress, but have a long way to go.

I appreciate everyone’s support in my attempts to help people talk to each other respectfully, effectively, and conscientiously. Thank you!

Also, I’m really looking forward to 2021 and finding ways to train more people on this skill that our culture seems to have lost.

Here’s a quick story.

When he was just a kid, on their first day together, Evander Holyfield’s new coach told him he could be the next Muhammad Ali.

“Do you want that?” the coach asked the future champ.

“Yes” he said (after checking with his mom).

“OK,” said his coach, “Is that a dream or a goal? Because there’s a difference.”

As you set your goals for this next year, please think about how heavily you rely on your ability to communicate to achieve all those great things you want to try, and do, and accomplish.

If you make one of your goals this year to be better at communicating, better at listening with empathy, asking for what you want, giving feedback, speaking your truth, saying what matters when it matters most, with all the people in your life, your family, partners, children, bosses, co-workers, team mates, I guarantee that you will be more effective, content, and connected.

Happy new year,

Danny
