3 types of refusals
“Will you do this report for me?”
Sigh. Slump. “OK, yes, sure…”
When a request is made of us, we might be brave and say no, but when we don’t have confidence, we replace a precise refusal with a disguised, general, or indirect refusal.
There are three types of refusals:
A refusal to take some action that the other person asked us to take
A refusal to accept feelings that arise from what others say or do, and
A refusal prompted by fear of the consequences
How often do we let our emotions and judgments get a hold of us, instead of saying “no.”
“Actually, I have a lot on my plate right now. Can you ask someone else so I can focus on my current project?”
