The most important word when you ask for something

People think that saying please is the most important part of asking someone to do something. It isn’t.

It’s actually because.

Research has strongly indicated that we’re hard-wired to comply with a request when we know the reason behind it.

The next time you ask someone at work to send you that report, make sure to include “because understanding X will be a key part to my presentation next week.”

Or the next time you ask your partner to help with a household chore, don’t forget to explain, “because I need enough time to do X.”

Tacking on a reason, no matter how simple, will make your requests significantly more effective.
