Say this instead

When you use “hedges” like “I think…” or “Correct me if I’m wrong…” you are signaling that you’re unsure, uncertain, or weak.

Here are alternatives to hedging, which position you from a place of your own power. Note that they aren’t arrogant or domineering.

Don’t say this

Instead, say this

Does that make sense?

What are your thoughts? or I’d like your input.

Maybe we should try…

Let’s try… or It’s a good idea to try…

I’m not sure/positive, but…

Whatever you were going to say after the “but…”

I just wanted to…

I wanted to…

Needless to say…

Don’t say anything if it’s needless to say.

In my opinion…

Just say your opinion without the preface. Include logic or reasoning, to back it up.

Sorry

Excuse me. (Avoid the Sorry Syndrome).

If you know what I mean.

Just say the thing. (This is a filler phrase.)
