In conversation, have a goal

In conversation, have a goal

One person just wants to vent or talk through a problem, but the other person automatically starts offering solutions or fixing the problem instead of listening.

What if we made our communication goals clear beforehand?

“Hey, I just need to vent….”

“Can you just listen while I process something?”

“Do want me to problem solve, or just listen?”

Attention follows intention.
