How to tell a work victory story

Marketers know the value of case studies. You can use them too, to convince a boss, nail an interview, or just tell a story about how effective you are.

Know your details

To generate a great case study story, here are five questions to ask the person or company you helped:

  1. What was the problem you were having before I/we helped?

  2. What did your frustration feel like as you tried to solve that problem?

  3. What was different about our solution/team?

  4. Take us to the moment when you realized our solution/team was actually working to solve your problem.

  5. What does life look like now that your problem is solved or being solved?

Script your story

Here’s a case study formula that works in writing or in person:

  1. Explain their challenge(s)

  2. Explain how the person/customer arrived at the decision to work with you

  3. Explain your solution and why it was right for them

  4. Explain the process/steps of what you did to help

  5. Explain the results, including proof or a statistic

  6. Close with a testimonial or quote from the person/company about how they feel
