Give unrequested updates

It’s Friday. Let’s keep it short.

Are you working on a project and want to be seen as a superstar leader or rockstar teammate?

Then send an unsolicited update. Send a lot of them.

From my experience, most project problems arise because people "don’t know what’s going on," or “hadn't heard,” or are “out of the loop.”

"It would be nice if they told me!"

"I'm the last one to know."

"I have no idea."

When was the last time a boss or executive, or anyone for that matter, seemed more relieved after you explained the project status (progress, challenges, solutions, and next steps, etc.) to them?

People just want to be in the know.

No one wants to be in the dark.

Don’t wait to be asked. Send a brief project or task update, today.

Going the extra mile on even the smallest of tasks will always stand out. Most people won’t even go the first mile.
