Create independent employees
Do you have an employee who just wants to be told what to do?
Who lives in fear of being responsible or making a real decision?
In 101 Tough Conversations to Have with Employees, Paul Falcone says you can ask them, “What would you do if you were me?”
“I don’t know,” they’ll probably say.
To which you can reply, “But what would your answer be if you did know?”
It may sound silly, but it’s a gentle way to encourage a shy person.
