What to do if they’re not listening

Jordan Peterson, author of 12 Rules For Life, says “If they're not listening you should stop talking.”

Start watching them like a hawk, he says, because what's being revealed to you is the fact that you're understanding of the situation is radically insufficient.

You are not where you think and you are.

You’re not talking to who you think you're talking to you.

And you can’t get clear if you’re the one talking.

Listen, and they’ll tell you exactly who they are and what they’re up to. Then, communication can start to flow again.

If it doesn’t, find a more receptive audience.

When you keep talking to someone who isn’t listening, you’re devaluing your words, your contribution, your presence.

This is what Matthew 7:6 means by “Do not cast pearls before swine.”
